The flooding occurred in Rasuwa District, Nepal, near the Nepal–China border, on August 26, 2026. The floodwaters originated from the Tibet region of China, reportedly following a glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) in the Lhende River. The flooding affected areas around the Friendship Bridge at the Nepal–China border, Kerung in Tibet, Rasuwagadhi, Timure, and Syabrubesi, as well as downstream communities along the Trishuli River toward Chitwan.
The disaster caused significant damage to houses, roads, bridges, and other infrastructure in the affected areas. News of the flooding has understandably raised concerns among international visitors and potential trekkers, with some foreign travelers becoming hesitant about visiting Nepal.
